Abstract:
PREFACE In reading the works assigned for class study, the writer was impressed with the ability of some authors to express emotion. His interest was increased when he noticed that two men could write on the same subject and the work of one would affect him, while that of the other would leave him emotionally cold. The subject matter was the same, the diction quite alike, what was the difference? He decided to study the form with the view of discovering what influence it had, and if it exerted any, where it obtained its force. The result was this paper. ... INTRODUCTION Society would be impossible if no means of communication existed among its components. Therefore God has furnished man with many means of expressing his ideas; the cultivation and refinement of these means, has been man's work. The most valuable medium for expressing ideas is language. The content of langage must ever be human experience, but the presentation of this human experience may differ from time to time. The means are fundamentally the same, but vary in the details. ...
