Abstract:
Through the analysis of a range of passive cooling strategies found in vernacular architecture from various arid climate zones, this investigation aimed to define a set of strategies that allow for the implementation of sustainability in low-income neighborhoods in Phoenix, AZ. Six strategies, including the use of windcatchers, are proposed and transform the local 1970s unsuitable residential fabric into a new viable community through the shared use of passive cooling practices.
