The memory & poetics of the place we call HOME

Abstract

This thesis takes a deeper look into the place each of us call HOME. The topic is discussed from a phenomenological perspective, and revolves around memory and poetry of domestic spaces. The theories from Gaston Bachelard’s book, Poetics of space, shapes the thinking of this project, and allows for personal interpretation. The HOME viewed as an adult, or child, contains daydreaming, better known as imagination, of the space once dwelled in. Since there was life once lived in a space, the essence of the space continues on in all of us. Bachelard finds ways to describe these happenings in reality and unreality. We can understand this theory by personifying the home itself; by trying to understand the HOME, as we would try and understand a human mind.
