Abstract:
The United States – Mexico Border is an (in)visible line of disruption and control. A scar of a past that has yet been able to heal. These (in)visible lines also create regions within the border communities that make up a unique condition where the idea of a border as a physical construction of national identity and order morphs into an interstitial zone of transnational communities. This thesis challenges what a barrier at a nations border could look like, and the possible design interventions that could occur on the border. As we examine the history that lead to the current border conditions, we take a look into what the border could become as well as the impact it could have on these hybrid border communities.
