Abstract:
This thesis was conducted by a master’s student at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Architecture. The “Urban Edge Condition” thesis is based on research of urban edge that was conducted in the City of Detroit. During the first semester of this thesis a quantified amount of research was done to find the border or an edge condition that fit the given criteria of an edge. The second semester dealt with the discovered urban edge condition in the city of Detroit. The concept was to reimage the existing conditions within the urban fabric and how these conditions can be viewed differently through an intervention. The author is using fabric and the craft of stitching and overlaying the fabric to explore and explain the urban edge condition within the city.
